What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT?
CBT is a talking therapy that aims to help us to understand our current difficulties and is based on the idea that our thoughts and behaviours effect our feelings. CBT will help you to identify any negative thoughts and behaviours that are maintaining your current problems and creating a ‘vicious cycle’. CBT then uses a number of practical techniques to break this cycle and change any negative thoughts and behaviours into more helpful ones that will ultimately change the way you are feeling.

What Does CBT Involve?
Your first session will be an assessment of you problems, this will involve you explaining your current problems and how you are feeling. Your therapist will ask further questions to build a bigger picture of you and your difficulties. Sometimes more than one session is needed to complete the assessment. Once the therapist has a good understanding of you and your problems, together you will agree a treatment plan to help you move forward.
The average number of sessions needed is 12, however some people need less and some people need more depending on your problems and their severity.
